When it comes to using hydrogen peroxide to clean jewelry, it can be a bit of a touchy subject. To find out more about the pros and cons of this cleaning method, I spoke with Annabeth Bird, a professional jeweler with over 20 years of experience.

According to Annabeth, hydrogen peroxide is great for removing surface dirt from sterling silver and other soft jewelry materials. However, if the metal is too delicate or has stones set into it then hydrogen peroxide could prove to be too strong of a cleaning agent and could cause damage. She also cautioned against putting pieces in an ultrasonic cleaner as that can be too powerful for some jewelry items.

Annabeth advises looking for cleaning solutions that are specifically made for the metal or stones on your jewelry piece, as those will usually be milder than using something like hydrogen peroxide. She emphasized making sure any homemade mixture you use (like baking soda and vinegar) specially designed products because they are not as strong as something like hydrogen peroxide. This helps keep your delicate jewelry safe while still keeping it looking its best!

Yes, hydrogen peroxide can be used to clean jewelry. It is a safe and effective way to disinfect the surface of jewelry and remove dirt, bacteria, and grime. To use it, combine equal parts of water and hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Soak the jewelry in the solution for 5–10 minutes before scrubbing it gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse the jewelry with clean running water and allow it to air dry before wearing.

Yes, hydrogen peroxide can be used to clean jewelry. This video demonstrates how to use hydrogen peroxide to safely clean a variety of jewelry pieces. Begin by diluting the hydrogen peroxide spray into a bowl of water in a 1:3 ratio – three parts water, one part hydrogen peroxide. Soak your jewelry in this solution for 10 minutes and then rinse with clean, warm water. For certain more delicate pieces of jewelry like diamonds, rub gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush if needed for extra cleaning power. Dry your jewelry with a soft cloth before wearing. Always avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasion on any fine pieces of jewelery as these may cause damage or discoloration.
