“He was the consummate retailer,” said his grandson, Jay Fortunoff. “He was always out on the floor, talking to customers, finding out what they wanted.”
Fortunoff was born in Brooklyn in 1917 and began working in the jewelry business at the age of 14. He served in the Army in World War II and returned to Brooklyn after the war to start his own business.
